Study of Heat Transfer in a Plate-Fin Heat Sink Using the Finite Element Method Implemented in Python

Abstract

The project consists of determining the optimal number of fins for a straightfin copper heat sink used to cool a CPU model through forced convection with external air. This project employs a program developed in the Python programming language, which is suitable for solving the three-dimensional heat equation using the Finite Element Method, given the boundary conditions of prescribed heat flux from the CPU and forced convection with the air in contact with the heat sink. After simulating all the studied heat sinks, the final model was determined to have an optimal number of 53 fins
