Finite Element Method Applied to Barrage Temperature Profile

Abstract

MENDES, Dalvan. Finite Element Method applied to Dam Temperature Profile, 2021, 110f. Projeto Final de Graduação - Faculdade de Engenharia , Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, 2021. It is observed that concrete dams have the characteristic of responding to a series of different loads, which can occur in the form of the force of gravity, hydrostatic pressure of the water, or seasonal thermal variations. The study of the effects of temperature on the structure of concrete dams has become a field of analysis that has grown in relevance. This study aimed to address the issue of using the F inite Element Method to conduct studies on dam temperature profiles. Thus, a bibliographic search of qualitative character and exploratory intention was carried out and based on the data obtained in the literature, the mathematical modeling of the heat equation was developed using the Finite Element Method for the unidimensional case and it was created a s pecific code in Python for solving heat conduction problems in permanent and transient regimes in one and two dimensions. The code was validated through its application in problems with known analytical solution, through the comparison between the analytical solution and the numerical solution of the problems. Finally, the code was applied in the analysis of the temperature distribution to the two-dimensional profile of a stretch of the Itaipu dam. 1
