Numerical Analysis of the Effect of Porosity on Biofuel Production in the Stream-Function Vorticity Formulation Using the Finite Element Method

Abstract

In the lastest decades, the levels of carbon dioxide (CO 2) emitted into the atmosphere have increased, resulting in an increase in climate change. Bioenergy and Carbon Storage in geological formations of residues from the burning and production of biofuels can help to reduce the levels of CO 2 present in the atmosphere. The main objective of this work is to perform a computational analysis on hydrodynamics in porous media, using the finite element method (FEM). To achieve this goal, a code was developed in Python language to enable the numerical analysis of the formulation of the current-vorticity function in a bank of tubes (porous medium), having as parameters the stream function, vorticity, horizontal velocity and vertical velocity. It was observed that the quantity, location and geometry of the obstacle, in addition to the space available for the development of the flow, influence the parameters analyzed
