CFD Analysis of the Flow in a Test Cell for Aircraft Engines

Abstract

This thesis aims to present a study conducted on the influence of the elements of an aeronautical test cell on the behavior of its airflow. The present study proposes an economic and simple method of analysis using the Python language and the Finite Element Method to obtain useful knowledge for the development of new test cell projects. Therefore, after a study of the state of the art of the existing test cells, a series of geometries with different compositions of silencers, deflectors, porous screen and ducts were built in the Gmsh software. The flow on these geometries were calculated and velocity profiles in the suction area of the engine were compared, along with velocity distortions, in order to understand the influence of its components
