Comparison and Validation of Numerical Methods Applied to Heat Transfer

Abstract

The objective of this work is to expose an analysis on the applicability of the Finite Difference Method and the Finite Element Method to bidimensional heat conduction problems. The obtained numerical results are used as an object of discussion and comparison, in order to elucidate how the methods correlate with each other and with the analytical solution (when the latter is available). Furthermore, the concepts related to the application of the methods, as well as those related to the theory of Heat Transfer are reviewed before the implementation of the methods, in order to construct a theoretical foundation compatible with the analyses carried out. Key-Words: Heat Conduction, Finite Difference Method, Finite Element Method
